Most of my week is spent working for Gloucestershire Music where I have several roles. The balance of which varies during the course of the year |
|
My first role with Gloucestershire Music was as a Woodwind peripatetic teacher. Travelling between many school to teach saxophone, flute and clarinet to small groups of pupils. I continue with this for a minimum of one day a week. |

Wider opportunities is a national, government funded scheme giving the chance for KS2 children to learn an instrument in curriculum time as a whole class. I was part of the pilot scheme in Gloucestershire, attaching myself to the percussion department. I have since edited the percussion scheme of work for WO and continue to team teach with them. |
|
A large part of my 9 years working for Gloucestershire Music has been spent delivering classroom lessons. In some cases being based in a school for 12 months, teaching National Curriculum lessons to the whole school (KS1 +2). Where I also covered the woodwind tuition this lead to my being seen by the children as ‘the music lady’. |

From time to time staff want a ‘boost’ in a particular areas—such as singing or working with tuned percussion. I will then go into school for a single, or short run of lessons. This has two benefits. A new face and fresh approach for the children and some informal staff training for the school staff. |
